Nowhere Boy - Film

"When I was younger—so much younger than today…"- John Lennon (1965)
NOWHERE BOY captures and conveys the crucial formative years of John Lennon.  For the first time on screen, it depicts the events and personal circumstances that led to the formation of the Beatles—and the underlying family currents that shaped and molded the creative and inspirational qualities of John Lennon.  Qualitites that had a revolutionary impact on the world during the brief 40 years of life—and that continue to have immense effect 30 years after his death.
With a script and perspectives drawn from a variety of impeccable sources, and its authenticity endorsed by those who knew John Lennon best (including his childhood pals depicted in the movie), it is the first film to allow admirers to — in the words of one of Lennon's last and most personal songs — understand the little child inside the man.

Parting Ways: An unauthorized Story of Life After the Beatles - Film

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr: the four most iconic names in pop music. Parting Ways: An unauthorized story on life after the Beatles’ examines the phenomenon that was Beatlemania.

Four decades after the band broke up, The Beatles are still on top of every conceivable list of the greatest recording artists of all time. No other pop act has surpassed the Fab Four in terms of innovation, or social impact. Because of this, whatever they chose to do as solo performers would forever be judged against what was achieved as a part of the most popular group in music history.

Despite their many personal trials and tribulations, The Beatles, both together and individually, have managed to retain their good reputations and legend status as the best pop band in the world.

AROTR U: The Beatles and America - The Soundtrack of a Generation

We will discuss how the evolution of Beatles music influenced American social conscience from a nation mourning JFK's assassination, divided over the Vietnam War, and encouraged by The Summer of Love and Woodstock.  We will listen to examples of Beatles creativity evolving from simple love songs of Beatlemania, to introspective lyrics of Rubber Soul & Revolver, psychedelics, magical mysteries, and many others.

Bellarmine University instructors John Logsdon and Roy Martin are lifelong Beatles fans who bring passion and enthusiasm to this subject. John is an engineer at General Electric and Roy is a foreign policy and political consultant.

Bruce Spizer

Bruce Spizer's books tell the fascinating and sometimes complicated story of the Beatles in America. From the very first record bearing the Beatles name in the U.S.A., Please Please Me b/w Ask Me Why, released by Vee-Jay Records on February 7, 1963, through the last disc issued by their own company during the Apple era, George Harrison's This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying) on December 8, 1975, all the way to and including the triumphant return of Apple Records and the release of Live At The BBCAnthology and the phenomenally successful Beatles 1, Bruce documents the ins and outs of every Beatles record released in America, down to the smallest detail.

Bruce's books contain the complete history of the writing and recording of the songs, the selection of singles in America, the compiling of the unique American albums and the marketing of the Beatles to America. Each book is filled with several hundred full color and original black & white images of 45 rpm discs, picture sleeves, album labels, album covers, promotional posters, rare point-of-purchase displays, memorabilia, Billboard magazine ads, company documents and, of course, the Beatles themselves. Many of these images are from Bruce's extensive Beatles collection, while others were contributed by top Beatles collectors and dealers throughout the world.

Come Together: The Business Wisdom of The Beatles

Richard Courtney and George Cassidy will speak about their new book Come Together: The Business Wisdom of The Beatles.

On March 28, 2011, Come Together unveiled the historic rock band as the ultimate business case study, chronicling the calculated and often brilliant effort that turned four teenaged greasers from Liverpool, England, into a multi-billion dollar franchise with multigenerational appeal. Each aspect of the Beatles’ journey is paralleled with the elements and ideas intrinsic to any business venture, providing readers with one-of-a-kind framework for a similar path to success.

Richard (founder & chair of the Nashville Beatles Festival) and George (working songwriter & freelance recording engineer), will be launching their book as panelists and special guests at The Fest in New York at the end of March.

They will also have a booth at this year's AROTR to sign and sell books!

The Backwards

It all started in a far corner of the Slovak Republic in a a beautiful city called Kosice.
The year was 1996 (six years after the fall of The Berlin Wall). Two young men who were best friends and had grown up together on the same street very near the cultural center of this town, decided to express their gratitude to the most popular rock band of all human history.
Dalibor Stroncer and Miroslav Dzunko (John and Paul, respectively) both budding musicians themselves, began to emulate and interpret the music and songs of The Beatles. It quickly became the main area of their musical interest and performance. They added a George (Frantisek Suchansky) and a Ringo (Daniel Skorvaga). The rest they say, is HISTORY

The last recorded album is often regarded as their best.  We will discuss the individual tracks on Side 1 and the structure of "The Long Medley" on most of Side 2.  Paul and George Martin create a 16 minute continuous flow of song fragments that transition beautifully until "The End".
