Nowhere Boy - Film

"When I was younger—so much younger than today…"- John Lennon (1965)
NOWHERE BOY captures and conveys the crucial formative years of John Lennon.  For the first time on screen, it depicts the events and personal circumstances that led to the formation of the Beatles—and the underlying family currents that shaped and molded the creative and inspirational qualities of John Lennon.  Qualitites that had a revolutionary impact on the world during the brief 40 years of life—and that continue to have immense effect 30 years after his death.
With a script and perspectives drawn from a variety of impeccable sources, and its authenticity endorsed by those who knew John Lennon best (including his childhood pals depicted in the movie), it is the first film to allow admirers to — in the words of one of Lennon's last and most personal songs — understand the little child inside the man.

Parting Ways: An unauthorized Story of Life After the Beatles - Film

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr: the four most iconic names in pop music. Parting Ways: An unauthorized story on life after the Beatles’ examines the phenomenon that was Beatlemania.

Four decades after the band broke up, The Beatles are still on top of every conceivable list of the greatest recording artists of all time. No other pop act has surpassed the Fab Four in terms of innovation, or social impact. Because of this, whatever they chose to do as solo performers would forever be judged against what was achieved as a part of the most popular group in music history.

Despite their many personal trials and tribulations, The Beatles, both together and individually, have managed to retain their good reputations and legend status as the best pop band in the world.

Yellow SubMorons

On January 21, 1959 the Rutles story began at 43 Egg Lane, Liverpool, where Ron Nasty and Dirk McQuickly first bumped into each other. Ron invited Dirk to help him stand up. Dirk, merely an ameteur drinker, agreed and on that spot a legend was created, a legend that will last a lunchtime. They were soon to be joined by Stig O'Hara, a guitarist of no fixed hairstyle, but it would be another two years before they found their regular drummer, Barrington Womble, hiding in the van. When they did, they persuaded him to change his name to save time and his haircut to save Brylcreem. He became simply Barry Wom.

The Backwards

It all started in a far corner of the Slovak Republic in a a beautiful city called Kosice.

The year was 1996 (six years after the fall of The Berlin Wall). Two young men who were best friends and had grown up together on the same street very near the cultural center of this town, decided to express their gratitude to the most popular rock band of all human history.

Dalibor Stroncer and Miroslav Dzunko (John and Paul, respectively) both budding musicians themselves, began to emulate and interpret the music and songs of The Beatles. It quickly became the main area of their musical interest and performance. They added a George (Frantisek Suchansky) and a Ringo (Daniel Skorvaga). The rest they say, is HISTORY

Revolver

REVOLVER are a four piece band from Dundee, Scotland. These four, lifelong friends since childhood have always shared a common obsession with the music of the Beatles and now specialise in performing accurate, live representations of a huge range of Beatles songs from all eras. The group are particularly renowned for their performances of many of the Beatles classic album tracks recorded from 1965 onwards. The majority of this later material was sadly never performed live by the fab four themselves, however, REVOLVER relish the challenge of recreating these complex studio productions in the live arena. Performing in REVOLVER has proven to be a real labour of love for the band, who go to great lengths to perfect the subtle intricacies which epitomise and define the music of the Beatles. The band adopt a modern, multi-instrumental approach in an attempt to fully re-create the studio recordings. Revolver’s set is a true eclectic mix of material, with something special guaranteed for every Beatles fan.

AROTR U: The Beatles and America - The Soundtrack of a Generation

We will discuss how the evolution of Beatles music influenced American social conscience from a nation mourning JFK's assassination, divided over the Vietnam War, and encouraged by The Summer of Love and Woodstock.  We will listen to examples of Beatles creativity evolving from simple love songs of Beatlemania, to introspective lyrics of Rubber Soul & Revolver, psychedelics, magical mysteries, and many others.

Bellarmine University instructors John Logsdon and Roy Martin are lifelong Beatles fans who bring passion and enthusiasm to this subject. John is an engineer at General Electric and Roy is a foreign policy and political consultant.

Bruce Spizer's books tell the fascinating and sometimes complicated story of the Beatles in America. From the very first record bearing the Beatles name in the U.S.A., Please Please Me b/w Ask Me Why, released by Vee-Jay Records on February 7, 1963, through the last disc issued by their own company during the Apple era, George Harrison's This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying) on December 8, 1975, all the way to and including the triumphant return of Apple Records and the release of Live At The BBCAnthology and the phenomenally successful Beatles 1, Bruce documents the ins and outs of every Beatles record released in America, down to the smallest detail.

Bruce's books contain the complete history of the writing and recording of the songs, the selection of singles in America, the compiling of the unique American albums and the marketing of the Beatles to America. Each book is filled with several hundred full color and original black & white images of 45 rpm discs, picture sleeves, album labels, album covers, promotional posters, rare point-of-purchase displays, memorabilia, Billboard magazine ads, company documents and, of course, the Beatles themselves. Many of these images are from Bruce's extensive Beatles collection, while others were contributed by top Beatles collectors and dealers throughout the world.

Beatles For Sale - Jukebox

Beatles for Sale is The Beatles' fourth studio album, released in late 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone. The album marked a minor turning point in the evolution of Lennon and McCartney as lyricists, John Lennon particularly now showing interest in composing songs of a more autobiographical nature. "I'm a Loser" shows Lennon for the first time seemingly coming under the influence of Bob Dylan, whom he met for the first time in New York while on tour, on 28 August 1964.

The album hit the UK number one spot and retained that position for eleven of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top Twenty. Beatles for Sale did not surface as a regular album in the US until 1987. In its place was Beatles '65 which featured eight songs from Beatles for Sale, plus the A and B-side of "I Feel Fine" and "I’ll Be Back" from the UK's A Hard Day’s Night album. Beatles '65 enjoyed a nine week run at the top of the US charts beginning in January 1965.

Come Together: The Business Wisdom of The Beatles

Richard Courtney and George Cassidy will speak about their new book Come Together: The Business Wisdom of The Beatles.

On March 28, 2011, Come Together unveiled the historic rock band as the ultimate business case study, chronicling the calculated and often brilliant effort that turned four teenaged greasers from Liverpool, England, into a multi-billion dollar franchise with multigenerational appeal. Each aspect of the Beatles’ journey is paralleled with the elements and ideas intrinsic to any business venture, providing readers with one-of-a-kind framework for a similar path to success.

Richard (founder & chair of the Nashville Beatles Festival) and George (working songwriter & freelance recording engineer), will be launching their book as panelists and special guests at The Fest in New York at the end of March.

They will also have a booth at this year's AROTR to sign and sell books!

Nowhere Boy - Film

"When I was younger—so much younger than today…"- John Lennon (1965)NOWHERE BOY captures and conveys the crucial formative years of John Lennon. With a script and perspectives drawn from a variety of impeccable sources, and its authenticity endorsed by those who knew John Lennon best (including his childhood pals depicted in the movie), it is the first film to allow admirers to — in the words of one of Lennon's last and most personal songs — "understand the little child inside the man."

Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by the English rock group The Beatles, released in December 1965. Produced by George Martin,Rubber Soul had been recorded in just over four weeks to make the Christmas market. Unlike the five albums that preceded it, Rubber Soul was the first Beatles album recorded during a specific period, the sessions not dashed off in between either tour dates or during filming projects.  After this, every Beatles album would be made without the need to pay attention to other commitments, except for the production of short promotional films or principal photography and editing to Magical Mystery Tour. The album was described as a major artistic achievement, attaining widespread critical and commercial success, with reviewers taking note of The Beatles' developing musical vision.

Nowhere Boy - Film

"When I was younger—so much younger than today…"- John Lennon (1965)NOWHERE BOY captures and conveys the crucial formative years of John Lennon.

"1964"...The Tribute

The very FIRST BAND booked for Abbey Road on the River in 2002 has returned for one night only!!

Since the early 80's, "1964"...The Tribute has been thrilling audiences all over the globe with what Rolling Stone Magazine has called the "Best Beatles Tribute on Earth". "1964" takes their audiences on a journey through a quintessential moment in music history that will live forever.

Unlike other acts, "1964" concentrates on only the "touring years" of the Beatles. Since this time period is one of the most well documented (pictures, films, and eye witness accounts) times of the Beatles career, there is much that one can compare. "1964" has accomplished what many other acts could only dream of: An astonishingly accurate re-creation of the energy and the magic of those touring years. Over 20 years of researching and performing have made "1964" masters of their craft.

"1964" recreates an early '60's live Beatles concert, with period instruments, clothing, hairstyles, onstage banter, with an accuracy that is unmatched even til this day.

The White Album- Savoy Truffle & Steve Sizemore Group

The Beatles is the ninth official album by the English rock group The Beatles, a double album released in 1968. It is commonly known as the "White Album" as it has no graphics or text other than the band's name (and, on the early LP and CD releases, a serial number) on its plain white sleeve. The album was the first that The Beatles undertook following the death of their manager, Brian Epstein, and the first released by their own record label, Apple.  It has sold over 30 million copies world-wide.

Savoy Truffle is thrilled to be performing the first half of this landmark LP at this year's festival.  Come out and  groove to such classics as Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and more!

The last recorded album is often regarded as their best.  We will discuss the individual tracks on Side 1 and the structure of "The Long Medley" on most of Side 2.  Paul and George Martin create a 16 minute continuous flow of song fragments that transition beautifully until "The End".

Bruce Spizer

A Hard Day's Night - Timeline & Desmond and Molly

A Hard Day's Night is the third studio album by The Beatles, released on 10 July 1964 as the soundtrack to their film A Hard Day's Night.  While showcasing the development of the band's songwriting talents, the album sticks to the basic rock and roll instrumentation and song format. The album contains some of their most famous songs, including the title track and its distinct, instantly recognisable opening chord; and "Can't Buy Me Love", both were transatlantic number one singles for the band. The album and film are said to portray the classic image of the Beatles, as it was released at the height of Beatlemania.

Nowhere Boy - Film

"When I was younger—so much younger than today…"- John Lennon (1965)NOWHERE BOY captures and conveys the crucial formative years of John Lennon.

Please Please Me - The Beafore

Please Please Me is the debut album by The Beatles. Parlophone rush-released the album on 22 March 1963 in the United Kingdom to capitalise on the success of singles "Please Please Me" and "Love Me Do."

Of the album's fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon/McCartney, early evidence of what Rolling Stone later called "[their invention of] the idea of the self-contained rock band, writing their own hits and playing their own instruments."
